JinkoSolar has said it will supply 86 MW worth of solar modules to the largest PV plant in Colombia: the El Paso solar park, which Enel is building in the department of Cesar, in the north of the country.
The project, which will rely on 250,000 monocrystalline modules of 345 W – 1500 V, is also being equipped with 2,776 units of the SF7 tracking system, provided by Spanish company, Soltec. The facility is currently under construction and is expected to start commercial operations by the end of 2018.
Alberto Cuter, General Manager Latam of JinkoSolar, commented, “Actually the Colombian market is mainly depending by hydro power, which could be an issue during dry season. PV solar will be a good solution to integrate the energy matrix of the country.
“While we are expecting Colombian PV market to grow rapidly, we will continue working closely with local developers to build sustainable partnerships where they will be able to maximize their return on their investment from the superior performance of JinkoSolar's products.”

The project was granted environmental approval by the regional authorities in September 2017. When completed, the system will be the largest of its kind in the country.
There is another PV project of a similar size in Colombia, the 80 MW PV plant in Los Santos, in the department of Santander, which located in the central northern part of the country. The developer, Colombia’s renewable energy company, Celsia, is also the owner of the largest operational solar park, the 9.9 MW Celsia Solar Yumbo project, located in the municipality of Yumbo, in Colombia’s southwestern region of Valle del Cauca. It was commissioned by the company last year.
