Poweroad receives China’s first pilot Battery Passport from Bureau Veritas
POWEROAD has received China’s first pilot Battery Passport issued by Bureau Veritas (BV) through the Circulor platform. The passport was presented during ees Europe 2026 in Munich and marks an early implementation of Digital Battery Passport requirements as the battery industry prepares for the EU Battery Regulation.
The EU Battery Regulation will introduce Digital Battery Passports for eligible batteries placed on the European market. The passport is intended to improve transparency and traceability by providing verified lifecycle information, including manufacturing data, carbon footprint, material sourcing, and end-of-life management. Pilot projects such as this enable manufacturers to validate the data collection, verification, and reporting processes required for future regulatory compliance.
Chris Baird, CPS Sales & Marketing Vice President at Bureau Veritas, said the milestone demonstrates how verified data can strengthen transparency and traceability across the battery value chain while helping manufacturers prepare for evolving regulatory requirements.
According to POWEROAD, the Battery Passport is part of the company’s broader efforts to strengthen product lifecycle management and sustainability practices. The company has expanded its capabilities in carbon footprint management, responsible sourcing, battery lifecycle management, recycling, and supply chain transparency to support increasing customer and regulatory expectations. With its European subsidiary, POWEROAD GmbH, the company also continues to strengthen its local presence in Europe.
Henry Hao, Founder and President of POWEROAD, said the achievement represents an important milestone in the company’s sustainability roadmap. He noted that establishing reliable product data and supply chain visibility will become increasingly important as Digital Battery Passports move toward wider implementation in Europe.
The pilot reflects a broader industry shift toward standardized digital product information for batteries. As implementation of the EU Battery Regulation progresses, Digital Battery Passports are expected to become an important tool for manufacturers, customers, and regulators by enabling consistent reporting of sustainability and compliance data throughout a battery’s lifecycle.
POWEROAD develops lithium-ion battery energy storage systems for residential, commercial and industrial (C&I), and utility-scale applications. It has deployed more than 1,000 C&I energy storage projects globally (as of May 31, 2026). The company will continue working with verification bodies, technology partners, and customers to advance battery traceability and support the development of a more transparent and sustainable energy storage value chain.
