Italy deploys 4.83 GW of PV in January-September
Italy connected 4.83 GW of new solar capacity in the first nine months of 2026, bringing cumulative installed capacity to 48.35 GW at the end of September. Utility-scale projects accounted for 46% of new additions, while the country’s cumulative battery storage capacity approached 20 GWh, according to new statistics from Italia Solare.

Italy awards full 30 MW quota in second floating PV tender
Italy’s second FER2 auction for floating solar projects on inland waters has allocated its entire 30 MW quota, following weak participation in the first round. Eight projects secured capacity, while two were excluded despite offering a 2% discount on the reference tariff.
Italy’s solar capacity could reach 137 GW by 2040, grid operators say
Italy’s installed solar PV capacity is expected to increase from 43.5 GW at the end of 2025 to 82.3 GW by 2030, before reaching between 114 GW and 137 GW by 2040, according to new scenarios published by grid operators Terna and Snam. The projections also point to significant growth in energy storage, electrification and electricity flows between market zones.

Italy sets rules for exit from Conto Energia PV incentive scheme, requires EU-made modules for repowering
Italy has introduced a voluntary mechanism allowing up to 10 GW of PV capacity under the first four Conto Energia schemes to exit incentives early from 2028. Eligible projects must undergo full repowering with EU-made modules by the end of 2030, with minimum energy-yield increases and specific rules for selling the resulting electricity.
Italy raises Macse energy storage auction premium cap from €22,000 to €27,000/MWh
Italy’s energy regulator, Arera, has raised the MACSE auction premium cap to €27,000/MWh per year, up from €22,000/MWh proposed in July, mainly due to higher benchmark investment costs. The new cap affects project economics and guarantees, while developers must weigh the 15-year fixed premium against potential merchant revenues when setting their bids.

Amazon, Nadara switch on 227 MW agrivoltaic facility in Italy
Nadara has completed the 227 MW Big Fish agrivoltaic project in Sicily, backed by a 156 MW PPA with Amazon and described by the developer as Italy’s largest agrivoltaic facility. The 400-hectare project was approved with a 20 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system.
Italian solar redrew the day, but gas still sets the price
Solar growth softened Italy’s midday power squeeze in summer 2026, but higher heat-driven demand and weaker hydro and wind left gas to cover most of the 7.9 TWh supply gap. The result was a sharper evening exposure: gas generation surged, prices rose most after sunset, and solar-heavy southern zones increasingly faced midday oversupply and weaker capture rates.
