Researchers build 9%-efficient semitransparent organic PV modules with 210 cm² aperture area
Fraunhofer ISE-led researchers fabricated 210.25 cm² semitransparent organic photovoltaic modules by slot-die coating. The best module achieved 9.3% power conversion efficiency, 43.2% average visible transmittance, and 4.0% light-utilization efficiency, demonstrating promising scalability toward roll-to-roll manufacturing.

BYD starts sales of 4.8 kW solar kits in Brazil
BYD has started selling 4.8 kWp solar kits through its 233 dealerships in Brazil, with packages covering equipment, installation, utility approval, and one year of insurance.
The kits use eight 600 W modules manufactured at BYD’s Campinas facility and are available to consumers regardless of vehicle ownership.
New materials in the frame
Solar cells, encapsulants, glass, backsheets, and virtually every PV module component have seen rapid changes and improvements over the past 10 years. During that time, module frames have seen relatively little innovation and remain a simple piece of formed aluminum. However, quality concerns, supply chain diversification, domestic content rules, and emissions reduction requirements have frame manufacturers eyeing alternative materials. And while aluminum isn’t going away, suppliers of steel and glass composite frames argue these materials come with various advantages.

Türkiye’s PV module manufacturing capacity tops 13.4 GW
Turkey has 13.2 GW of operational solar module manufacturing capacity, exceeding the 9.7 GW combined capacity of Italy, Germany, Spain, France, and the Netherlands, according to new figures released by Sinovoltaics. The country’s current cell manufacturing capacity is around 3.3 GW, while wafer capacity stands at approximately 1.2 GW.
Chinese automotive glass giant announces vehicle-integrated solar roof
Fuyao Glass has confirmed mass-production capabilities for solar sunroof glass, with photovoltaic cells embedded in laminated automotive glass to power auxiliary vehicle loads. While reports have linked the technology to BYD models and cited high output and efficiency figures, these claims remain unconfirmed as Fuyao advances commercialization of vehicle-integrated PV.

I-V screening for decommissioned PV modules
An automated I-V screening method identified 58.1% of decommissioned PV modules as suitable for second-life use, with those passing the screening showing a median estimated residual useful life of around 12 years. However, about 14% of modules that passed combined I-V and EL screening failed wet-leakage tests, highlighting the need to assess insulation safety separately from performance.
Canadian Solar says patent dispute with Maxeon is formally terminated
Canadian Solar says the dismissal of Maxeon’s U.S. patent infringement lawsuit formally ends the dispute between the two companies. The resolution follows the PTAB’s January decision invalidating the Maxeon patent claims asserted against Canadian Solar.
