Juan Orlando Hernandez President of the Republic of Honduras, inaugurated in the city of San Pedro Sula the largest photovoltaic solar plant built on roof throughout Latin America. This is specifically a 3 megawatt project built on the cover of EmSula bottling company.Javier Fernández-Font Perez, CEO of Alusin Solar guest attended the event invited by Smart Solar, a company responsible for project execution event.

Project data

Total power of 3MW

An area of 35,000 square meters was used.

11,702 solar panels were installed.

At peak production times, the solar plant is capable of supplying 65% of electricity consumed by the bottling equipments.

The average annual production is estimated around 20%.

Remarks by President Juan Orlando Hernandez

The first words of Honduran President at the opening were: "we have a unique and unrepeatable historical moment for Honduras. The opening of the largest solar plant on ceilings throughout Latin America just placing Honduras on the international map!

In the opening ceremony, Juan Orlando Hernandez was impressed by the size of the project. I declare that this type of initiative, "democratizing energy production" and just adding that after seeing what I saw, it was proud to be Honduran, even to request that the solar system was declared monument in Honduras.

Solar Alusin in the project

Solar Alusin participation began to emerge in November 2013, when the own Javier Fernández-Font Perez traveled to the city of San Pedro Sula to advise and accompany the installation of the project during the assembly of the pilot plant of 250 KW. After the success achieved in this pilot and the excellent results obtained production project in June last year the contract for the extension of the project to 3 Mw opened in yesterday materialized.

Gulpiyuri System

Alusin Solar supplied its Gulpiyuri system. A structures system for pitched roofs allows a quick installation and ensures fixations against water leaks and high resistance during the lifetime of the project.

In total were supplied more than 25 linear kilometers of the system.

This system takes its name from a spectacular beach located in the Asturian coast. “It is our particular way to go abroad shaking our flag", Javier declared to the local media.

Agreement future

Following the success of work between Smart Solar and Alusin Solar, and fruit of the negotiations held to coincide with the event, it has reached the strategic agreement where Alusin Solar will be exclusively represented Smart Solar for the whole region of central America.

This agreement includes the provision of Smart Solar local stock of structures that allow a quick response and delivery to local installers.

It seeks to replicate the success story of Alusin Solar Chile, a warehouse and sales office that s that the Spanish firm has in Santiago de Chile since August 2013.

About solar energy in Honduras

Currently under construction, there are 3 large solar plants in southern Honduras installed on ground, known in these parts as solar farms. These solar systems inject the energy produced directly to the grid based on a pre-established selling pricing.

What makes really revolutionary the EmSula project is that all the energy produced is automatically consumed by the bottling plant. Consumption at the place of production.
