CanSIA welcomes Minister Chiarelli as keynote opening speaker

Upon announcing the Long Term Energy Plan in December 2013, the Ontario Government has started the implementation of the Large Renewable Procurement (LRP), the 50 MW Energy Storage Procurement while continuing the operation of the MicroFIT and FIT programs.

Minister Chiarelli was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 2010 and represents the riding of Ottawa West-Nepean, after having previously represented the riding of Ottawa West as MPP from 1987 to 1997 and served as parliamentary assistant to the Chair of the Management Board in 1987-88.

Prior to taking on the province's Energy portfolio, he was appointed Minister of Transportation in October 2011, in addition to the role of Minister of Infrastructure which he held since August 2010.

The minister served as Regional Chair of Ottawa-Carleton and was later elected Mayor of the amalgamated City of Ottawa. He has been a champion of public transit, including clean light-rail expansion, and helped build over $150 million in new recreational and health care infrastructure in Ottawa neighbourhoods.
