Intersolar Summit: Project developers are increasingly focusing on the Middle East

Share

The production of solar energy is increasingly becoming a focus of governments and residents in the Middle East. An ever growing number of international investors and project developers are now considering entering this promising market. However, for potential investors to see how investment risks can be minimized, questions regarding financing options and key aspects of constructing photovoltaic projects have to first be answered. The Intersolar Summit Middle East, to be held from 14th to 15th October in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will provide the answers and is thus the go-to place in order to gain ground in the region in terms of the solar industry.

In addition to a current lack of experience when it comes to planning and operating PV power plants in the region, the logistics involved and the climatic conditions in the desert countries also present a challenge for project developers and the technologies used. This practical drawback, coupled with a lack of standards for PV parks, often results in the need for extra time, which then causes additional costs for the project developers. The advantageous amount of available sunlight is also countered by the dust and sand in these arid regions, which can reduce the generated power to a great extent and significantly increase maintenance and cleaning overhead costs. Under these environmental conditions, making the right decision with regard to the technical components and their suitability is crucial.

Phoenix Solar, which has been active for many years as a project leader and EPC in the MENA region, is familiar with these regional challenges and has successfully developed projects in the Middle East, North Africa and particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Phoenix is already operating two megawatt facilities for the Riyadh-based King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC). Along with other well-known companies, such as SMA Solar Technology AG, the Schletter GmbH and the Meyer Burger AG, Phoenix Solar LLC will provide an exclusive insight into their practical project work as part of the Intersolar Summit Middle East in October.
