The company has also opened a new subsidiary in Brazil, thus increasing its geographical presence in South America, where it has already other branches in Chile, Mexico and Ecuador.

"This is a very important step in our strategy. We have our objective well defined and we believe in the high potential of the Brazilian market. This project with General Motors confirms Martifer Solar's credibility in the sector's international scene", mentioned Henrique Rodrigues, CEO of Martifer Solar.

Martifer Solar will be responsible for all the design and execution of the project, for the supply of the photovoltaic equipment and for the installation of the monitoring system. This first project of Martifer Solar in Brazil will be developed in an extremely demanding context, since all the construction is being carried out under the LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The 235 W modules of Mprime (distribution brand of Martifer Solar) will be installed in the factory cover, in fixed structures connected to the existing surface. The installation will produce enough energy to supply the equivalent to the consumption of 285 houses, avoiding the emission in the atmosphere of more than 21 tons of Co2 per year.

GM is investing in more than a billion Brazilian reals in the construction of the Joinville industrial complex, in Santa Catarina, which will include two plants, of motors and transmissions. The motors plant will be inaugurated until the end of 2012 and will incorporate an assembly of pioneer systems in the areas of energetic efficiency and environmental protection, accrediting the LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The initiatives, which will turn the plant into the most sustainable of GM in the world, include the first photovoltaic energy generation system of the Brazilian automotive industry. The plant will also recycle 100% of the industrial residues (landfill free), a new treatment of effluents and sewers by means of filtrating gardens and industrial water recycling through reverse osmosis, among others.
