Information technology, automobiles and green energy manufacturer, BYD, has decided to sign the contract with LDK Solar for monthly shipments of polysilicon that will commence in January 2011. Ten percent of BYD is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, a conglomerate holding company that oversees and manages a number of subsidiaries, based in Omaha, Nebraska in the U.S. A deposit has already been transfered to LDK Solar to seal the deal.

"We are very excited to add BYD, a leading high-tech enterprise that has a strong commitment to the green energy sector, as a key customer," said Xiaofeng Peng, chairman and CEO of LDK Solar.
