Best practice project - ongridFor its smart district project in the Stegerwaldsiedlung, Cologne, RheinEnergie tasked GreenCom Networks with connecting the estate’s distributed energy resources to its energy IoT platform, building an energy community, connecting the district to a virtual power plant (VPP) and optimisation of energy flows. Going live in 2017 the project integrates solar PV, battery storages, heat pumps, heating blades, storage tanks and district heating accumulating to more than 3 MW generation capacity. Project benefits: 60% CO2 reduction, 70% energy independence, higher customer retention and satisfaction, better grid balancing via VPP integration and more.
