India: 1 GW PV power plant in Gujarat?
Just one day after grid failures resulted in 300 million people going without power for hours in New Delhi, a “ultra mega” solar power project has been proposed in the state of Gujarat. The Gujarat government is reportedly in talks with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to investigate funding such a power plant.
70 MW plant to be built in Southern Japan
Kyocera and six other companies have formed a new company to build and operate a 70 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power plant in the Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. The new company will be called the Kagoshima Mega Solar Power Corporation and Kyocera will be the largest shareholder.
26 percent of Arenales power plant sold
Solar Millennium’s insolvency administrator, Volker Böhm has sold a 26 percent share of the Spanish solar power plant Arenales. Purchaser is private equity firm STEAG GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of STEAG, Germany’s fifth largest electricity producer.

SG&E dedicates new green energy transmission line
Californian utility San Diego Gas & Electric (SD&E) has held a dedication ceremony to open the 117-mile, 500 kilovolt (kV) Sunrise Powerlink transmission line. The line will carry solar and wind-generated electricity from the Imperial Valley to the city of San Diego.
India: 1 GW milestone crossed
Local media in India have reported that solar photovoltaic installations in the country have crossed the one GW mark, according to the data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Suntech investigates possibility of fraud
Suntech Power Holdings has launched an investigation into a security interest the company received in connection with its investment in Global Solar Fund, S.C.A., Sicar (GSF). This investigation may delay Suntech’s earnings announcement for 2Q2012.
Australia: indigenous solar group for outback applications
Indigenous Australian mining contractor, Carey Mining, has undertaken a partnership with a photovoltaic installer Next Power, to form the first indigenous solar power company. Carey Power will work to provide installations to remote and regional Australian communities.
Heliotrop to supply 29 MW
The French Ministry of Energy has announced today that it has selected 29 megawatts (MW), of a total of 50 MW of projects, to customers of Heliotrop. Hybrid concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) and photovoltaic technology will be used in the plants.
