The park was constructed within a tight time frame and successfully grid connected according to plan by the end of August. The plant will produce enough electricity to cover the needs of more than 600 families through an annual production in excess of 2.3 million kWh.

"We were very pleased to have won the tender and were invited to build the PV plant on behalf of the Utscheid municipality," Raymond Carlsen, CEO of Scatec Solar said. "By completing and grid connecting the plant on time, we have proved that we have the competitive capabilities to deliver high quality and commercially sound projects even in a narrow time frame."

The site allocated for the plant provided challenging soil conditions which to a large degree consisted of bricks, stones, and construction waste. This made it necessary among other adjustments to utilize large concrete foundations to support the plant structure on the most difficult parts of the park, approximately 10 percent of the plant area. In spite of these challenging conditions, construction of the plant was completed in only six weeks.

The project was developed by COPCON, and Scatec Solar was responsible for designing, building, and commissioning the plant, and will also be performing regular maintenance of the PV park now in production.

The municipality of Utscheid will operate the plant themselves and produce more electricity than their 400 inhabitants consume on a yearly basis. Compared to traditional power production, this PV plant will represent CO2 savings of approx. 1.4 million kg per year. The plant utilizes more than 10,600 REC modules and a number of SMA inverters providing a total effect of 2.497 MWp.
