– Central inverters, PVS800 featuring high total efficiency in a compact design, and now available in larger 875 kW and 1000 kW sizes for rapid delivery. – Inverter station, PVS800-IS offering a compact two-megawatt (MW) inverter solution for large-scale solar power generation.

– Multistring inverters, PVS580 providing a new, three-phase and configurable all-in-one product series designed for photovoltaic (PV) power plants installed in commercial and industrial buildings. Complete, high-efficiency central inverter series ABB’s successful central inverter series, the PVS800, is now available in larger sizes.

The new 875 and 1000 kilowatt (kW) central inverters reduce overall system costs and have even higher total efficiency, with one of the most compact and easy-to-maintain designs on the market. The ABB central inverter series, rated from 100 to 1000 kW, is designed for multi-megawatt PV power plants as well as large PV installations in commercial and industrial buildings.

New, compact inverter station

The ABB inverter station, PVS800-IS is a compact and robust solution that houses two 1000 kW ABB central inverters and embedded auxiliary power-, monitoring- and air filtration systems. Together with the inverters, flexible and integrated DC and AC connection cabinets, the station can be rapidly and easily connected to the solar array and medium voltage (MV) transformer. The housing consists of a standard-sized, steel-framed, 20-foot shipping container that is insulated. The total package weighs only 14 tonnes, allowing easy and safe transportation and handling.

The station’s thermal insulation and tested air filtering system enables operation in harsh temperature and humidity environments and is designed for at least 20 years of operation. The ABB inverter station, rated at 2 MW, is designed for multi-megawatt PV power plants. Depending on the size of the PV power plant, several ABB inverter stations can be combined to meet the needed capacity.

The new inverter station will be available for delivery in 2014. Smart flexibility and performance in a new ABB multistring inverter ABB is introducing a new multistring inverter series that is designed for PV plants installed in commercial and industrial buildings. The new inverter series is optimized for a variety of PV system needs, providing a convenient combination of high performance and flexibility.

The inverters are available in configurations ranging from an all-in-one design including DC side protection devices, to a configurable design with the specific optional protection devices integrated depending on the PV projects and system designers’ requirements. With all protection devices built-in, the need for costly external devices is reduced. The inverters come with the dual Maximum Power Point (MPP) tracking system, which maximizes the energy output for rooftops with varying orientations or shading, or even different types of solar modules.

The wide input voltage range together with the high maximum input voltage allows flexibility for the system designer. An intuitive graphical user interface combined with the inverters' safe installation area and plug-in AC and DC connectors makes commissioning fast and easy. The ABB multistring inverter series, rated from 20 to 25 kW, is designed for PV systems installed in commercial and industrial buildings up to MW sizes.

The new inverter series will be available for system integrators in 2014.
