ACT Aurora Control Technologies unveils next-generation Decima inline PV manufacturing measurement system

Share

The Decima CD builds on the novel IR spectroscopic mapping technology introduced by Aurora at last year’s EU PVSEC. Like the Decima CI, the Decima CD is an inline, non-contact emitter dopant (sheet resistance) measurement system featuring whole-wafer mapping at full production throughput, for 100% profiling of manufactured cells – an essential element for today’s stringent process analysis and control needs. With a lighter and lower profile, this new product is highly configurable for both new installations and retrofits into existing c-Si cell production lines.

The Decima CD was developed in close consultation with major cell manufacturers and respected photovoltaic and nanotechnology research institutes globally. It features marked improvements in both accuracy and throughput, with configurations allowing for up to 100 measurement points per wafer in real time, for both batch and inline diffusion production lines.

Like the first-generation Decima CI, the new Decima CD provides for continuous cost-effective measurement of critical-to-quality wafer parameters in high-volume photovoltaic cell manufacturing processes. “With the industry’s high throughput, continuous production methods, tight real-time measurement and control of emitter fabrication variability is necessary to profitably meet market demand for PV cells that combine low cost and optimal power output“ commented Gordon Deans, CEO of Aurora. “In particular, with the severe production cost pressures that c-Si cell manufacturers are facing today, we continue to focus squarely on the issues affecting profitability, thereby providing rapid payback when used in production.”

The Decima CD is ideal for both new and existing production lines as it is easily retrofitted with no downtime, features full wafer mapping programmability, and is configurable from a single lane high-speed unit up to eight lanes for high-throughput production.

The Decima CD is being presented at the 27th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, at stand G4 in Hall 3.0. It is available for ordering from September 24th, 2012.
