Artist designs PV sunflower for Austrian exhibition

With that idea in mind, artist Konrad Feichtinger designed a sunflower sculpture with ertex-solar photovoltaic modules for the ongoing national exhibition “Alte Spuren – neue Wege” (“Old Traces – New Ways”) in Upper Austria.

The seven meter high plants are distributed over 9 areas and produce up to 1400 watts of power. Using control software developed by the Ars Electronia Center in Linz, the flowers deliver power to visitors of the national exhibition.

In the evening hours, LED lights are reflected by the flowers and the colorful light immerses visitors in an irresistible atmosphere. According to the artist, Konrad Feichtinger, the flowers will produce more energy than they consume.

Since the sculpture has been installed in front of the brewery in Freistadt, when the excess is fed back into the grid, there will be solar brewed beer, so to speak.
