African Sun Energyrecently started work to assist in designing, building and operating the new solar energy system to support the BBRF energy grid.

This is to ensure that all the high-technology and sensitive equipment in the facility have24/7 energy security. Other requirements were to demonstrate to the college that a renewable energy system could be used to provide power to remote off-grid communities, not only in Malawi, but also in the wider region of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

One of the strands of work to be implemented is the provision of training and job creation during the launch of this exciting development. Henceforth, ASE is offering the opportunity for Malawi’s local citizens to take part in a digital learning experience that is open to all, particularly women in abid to empower women to take up space in the renewable energy sector. From this cohort, four people will be offered a contract as solar installers to gain further professional experience during the installation of the new solar system at BBRF.

As a further incentive, the aim is to find at least one candidate who will be offered a one-year employment contract with ASE to support the operation and maintenance of the new installation and support further projects locally.

Malawi Blantyre Solar Photovoltaic Training is a free, short course offered by African Sun Energy (ASE) through our trusted and qualified Renewable Energy Engineer, Mr. Amos Chenamani, who obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Training from the University of Botswana.

Amos Chenamani, ASE Renewable Energy Engineer said: “Modern health systems need clean and affordable energy -this can be achieved through proper, in-job training. It would be a great honor to be able to disseminate some of the information I have acquired over the years as an energy engineer. My hope is that this training can empower the youth to get into the renewable energy sector as professionals and enthusiasts just as I have done.”

Dr Mwapatsa Mipando, Immediate Past Principal of College of Medicine said: “I am ever so proud about the strides we have taken with the launch of this project. It has proven to be more than just another solar installation project; we are well on our way into ensuring the people of Malawi are empowered and involved in this project and how it runs. Access to reliable, affordable and clean energy has never been as important and necessary as now and we are ensuring this is all made possible.”
