The Bring Back Solar Alliance today announced that Go Solar has joined the Alliance. Las Vegas-based Go Solar is a family owned business that specializes in residential/commercial solar, HVAC, weatherization, and commercial LED lighting. The company opened its doors in 2009 with four employees during hard economic times in Nevada and through hard work and determination grew to employ over 50 people by 2015. As a result of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevadas decision to end net metering, Go Solar was forced to lay off 26 of those employees, and scale back hours for another 14.
Having to tell our employees, who are like family, in this family-owned business that we no longer have work for them has been one of the most difficult things we've ever done, said Scott Shaw, Director of Research and Development at Go Solar. These were employees who have helped build our business during some of Nevada's worst economic years. They are very dedicated Nevadans with families to support. This is not what they expected from their elected government.
I and other local solar business-men and -women have been advocating and educating the community, students, and policy makers for over two years. Thats why we are thrilled to add our voice to the Bring Back Solar Alliance. We believe that together we can bring back solar this November.
The Bring Back Solar Alliance, composed of Nevada businesses, not-for-profits, and outraged homeowners, is fighting to give the voters the chance to overturn the Public Utilities Commissions new anti-solar rules and bring solar back to Nevada. The Alliance is supported by over 90,000 Nevadans, nearly double the 55,000 signatures needed to put the referendum on the ballot in November.
