Skyline Solar has announced that its Skyline Solar X14 System has been listed by the California Energy Commission (CEC) as an eligible product. CEC listing makes the Skyline X14 System eligible for California performance based incentives (PBI), and will drive faster adoption of Skyline Solar’s cost-efficient and field-proven concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) system.

The news follows Skyline Solar’s announcement of its IEC 62688 certification at Solar Power International 2011. Skyline Solar also received a new patent on its system architecture, the ninth awarded to the company in just 18 months.

The company’s growing patent portfolio covers key design elements of the CPV panel, reflector, optics, support structure, tracker and thermal management. The latest patent covers the placement of reflector extenders and caps at the ends of the reflective troughs.

The news comes on the heels of other key milestones Skyline Solar has recently achieved for its Skyline X14 System. The company recently participated in the ground-breaking ceremony on October 7 for a 500 kilowatt (kW) Skyline X14 System CPV plant in Durango, Mexico, expected to be the largest CPV plant in Latin America.

The Skyline X14 System, named for its ability to concentrate sunlight 14 times using durable glass reflectors, delivers an LCOE of less than ten cents per kWh in sunny climates. It is the only CPV system to incorporate field-upgradability, allowing system owners to future-proof their investment by benefiting from increased cell efficiency.Upgradability increases project Internal Rate of Return (IRR) by as much as 30 percent.
