The Vimalagiri International School and St. Josephs Cathedral are owned and administered by the Malankara Catholic Diocese of Muvattupuzha. The Vimalagiri International School, which is also a residential school and St. Josephs Cathedral are situated in the same campus.
St. Josephs Cathedral is built in the Gothic architectural style and has a 172 ft. tower which is one of the tallest church towers in Kerala. Emmvee designed and installed a fully customized solar solution with a total capacity of 37kW not only to generate electricity but also to secure the power for lighting to the school and the Cathedral during the frequent power cuts.
The photovoltaic (PV) system was installed on the roof top of the school with 149 EMMVEE ES230P60 polycrystalline modules. The generated power from the roof top systems will be shared equally between the school and the church. However the system is so designed that at any point, full capacity can be consumed by either of the buildings.
This option was built considering special days of the church or school when the required electricity is relatively high. The management of the Catholic Diocese of Muvattupuzha believes very much in the potential of the renewable energies and wanted to showcase and to educate the public about the solar energy. They strategically constructed a pyramid structure at the entrance of the church for installing photovoltaic modules.
Emmvee designed and manufactured 27 photovoltaic modules of 125Wp specially shaped to suit the geometry of the pyramid structure. A unique architecture was created with 2.75kW PV system to power the lighting requirements of St. Josephs Cathedral Church.
