The 10Power team is traveling to Haiti to launch three residential community solar projects with local partner, DigitalKap. 10Power will also install solar at a teaching farm that supports sustainable agriculture.
In Haiti, 65% of people do not have access to electricity, which is one of the lowest
electrification rates in the world. 10Powers upcoming project will bring clean, affordable electricity to the energy-starved Haitian villages of Anse-a-Veau, Petite Riviere de Nippes, and Les Cayes. The projected demand is 15,000 people per village.
These villages are also central hubs in a network of villages in the South of Haiti. The trip is partially funded by a grant from Invoking the Pause, an organization that
supports creative collaboration around climate change. The 10Power team will consist
of 3 undergraduate and graduate students and 4 professionals, who will conduct
educational programs and outreach with women and men from the community to ensure that the proposed renewable technology is an appropriate fit for the local market, and identify leaders who will help to manage the projects. The 10Power approach empowers local communities and secures energy sustainability.
10Power launched a GoFundMe campaign and is raising $5,000 to support this service trip: https://www.gofundme.com/10power
