- PV projects with on-site PPAs and battery storage: Rheinmetall and Energy Partners are implementing photovoltaic and battery energy storage (BESS) projects at various locations in Germany, including on-site power purchase agreements (PPAs), in which the electricity generated is used directly on site.
- Start of construction of the first project in Neuss (North Rhine-Westphalia):
The first PV project will start in early 2026 in Neuss and includes a 1.5 MWp rooftop system, the signing of an on-site PPA, and the installation of a battery storage system with more than 1 MWh.
Contribution to climate and resilience goals: The projects support Rheinmetall's CO2 reduction strategies and increase its self-sufficiency.
As a leading international systems provider in the defense industry and a driver of forward-looking technological developments, Rheinmetall pursues efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective energy procurement and relies on a strategic partnership with Energy Partners GmbH from Traunstein. Rheinmetall and Energy Partners are planning a total of over 20 MWp of PV capacity at various locations, supplemented by battery storage systems with a capacity of more than 10 MWh. The PV systems include rooftop installations, ground-mounted systems, and innovative PV carports that address the growing need for flexibility and optimization of self-consumption. The systems will be supplemented by high-performance battery storage systems, which are becoming increasingly essential for stability and economic efficiency. The first joint project is being developed at the Neuss site (North Rhine-Westphalia). There, a 1.5 MWp PV system with on-site PPA and battery storage will be implemented. Construction is scheduled to start in Q1 2026 and be completed in Q2 2026.
All projects rely on durable components and give preference to suppliers from Europe and the region in order to shorten supply chains, ensure quality, and guarantee long-term system availability. “Energy Partners is a reliable partner for us, one that understands our requirements and confidently tackles the technical challenges at our various locations. Whether photovoltaics, battery storage systems, or PV carports – Energy Partners can deal flexibly with different energy systems and contact persons. Particularly valuable is the open communication and solution-oriented approach, which makes the collaboration efficient and pleasant.
Together, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable energy supply,“ says Roland Preisler, Senior Vice President Strategic Energy Procurement at Rheinmetall. Matthias Giller, Managing Director of Energy Partners GmbH, is also delighted: ”We are proud to have gained such an important partner in Rheinmetall, a leading company in the field of European defense.
This collaboration is another milestone on our journey to provide industrial customers in Germany with innovative, sustainable energy solutions. Together, we are committed to a future-oriented and sustainable energy supply that not only covers ecological and safety aspects, but also offers economic advantages for our partner. The combination of battery storage and photovoltaics has become the absolute standard.”
Energy Partners GmbH, a subsidiary of MaxSolar GmbH, implements the projects independently and ensures fast and efficient implementation throughout Germany. In close cooperation with Rheinmetall, the joint goal is to equip company locations with customized, sustainable energy solutions that offer both ecological and economic advantages. The focus is on the efficient use of renewable energies to reduce operating costs and increase independence from external energy sources.
