EnterSolar, a leading provider of commercial solar systems to corporate customers, today announced the start of construction on a 200 kilowatt (kW) solar system to be installed at the Dykes Lumber Companys (Dykes) facility located in Long Island City.
This will be the third solar project that EnterSolar has developed for Dykes, following the previous installations at Dykes locations in Weehawken NJ in 2009 and Aberdeen NJ in 2011.
In total, Dykes will have over 750 kW of solar photovoltaic capacity deployed across these three locations. The Dykes Long Island City rooftop solar installation is being facilitated by the NY-Sun Initiative, a new public-private partnership that was introduced by Governor Cuomo earlier in 2012. Specifically, EnterSolar received an award under NYSERDAs Competitive PV Program (PON 2484), a portion of which be utilized to support the Dykes project. In addition, the project will utilize the NYC Property Tax Abatement that is available for eligible solar photovoltaic projects.
The Dykes solar project is also expected to utilize ConEdisons innovative and new Remote Net-Metering program, whereby surplus electricity generated by the Dykes LIC rooftop solar system can be credited to other Dykes locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
