What is Net Metering? Net metering empowers businesses and property owners to generate their own electricity from a solar system located on their rooftop. Utility companies subtract the value of electricity supplied to the grid from the value taken from the grid.
Electricity bills will display the net difference between those two amounts. This is converted into savings by reducing the electricity purchased from the grid. Should a net-metered system supply more power than what is used from the grid over the billing period, customers will receive a credit that will be applied to their next energy bills. The more electricity one produces, the greater the savings. It also means that customers can save on high delivery and regulatory charges.
