Shanghai HIUV New Materials Co. Ltd. is the first company in the solar material field who has invested in a quite innovative direction to find a suitable encapsulant solution for double glass PV panels technology.
The market appeal for double glass panels is progressively becoming an interesting solution for customers looking to benefit from the several advantages that this technology brings. But solar cells encapsulated between two layers of glass has always represented an engineering challenge for the module maker that normally has to invest several resources to issue a good product on the market.
HIUV New Materials uses Electron Beam technology to crosslink plastic materials to improve product performance. Polymers chains are cross-linked in the same way it is formed in a common laminator at high temperatures, with the difference that polymer bonds are here controlled before the material utilization in a so called pre-crosslinking stage. The specially tuned eva is therefore ready to be used by the module maker in order to laminate white double glass panels free of defects.
– Problem solving. The innovative solution has been developed in 2015 and is now gaining popularity for several reasons. Common problematic resulting from white eva encapsulant lamination are typically related to its overflow on the panels internal components, formation of wrinkles on the eva surface of the final laminate, and cell shifting effect due to the panel internal pressure after the eva reaches its melting point. A controlled pre-crosslinking effect, allows eliminating this problems in production giving the panel a high degree of well-defined appearance.
At the same time, the mechanical characteristics of Hiuv New Material G401W, have been specifically designed to solve glass bending effect happening in the laminator, so that there will be no bubbles formation on the edges or unfilled spaces due to eva leaking.
– Performance boost. Thanks to the high reflection rate of G401W, users of Hiuv New Materials white eva also register a substantial increase in the overall power performance of their panels with a typical gain, against a conventional PV panel with back sheet, of around 3w.
– Cost saving solution. This new generation of encapsulant also promises to solve other problematic related to the manufacturing. The panel structure remains simple with a single layer of G401W on the cell back side. The ability to tune the material eliminates all the production defects allowing to obtain very high production yield rates. Additionally, panels adopting G401W can be laminated in very fast time and are suitable for all the commercially available laminators.
Hiuv New Materials direction is to make this solution suitable for every manufacturer. This breakthrough positions the company as one of the most advanced innovator in the photovoltaic industry.
