juwi Shizen Energy, the Tokyo based joint venture between the German juwi group and the Japanese company Shizen Energy Inc. completed another solar project.
100 km north of Tokyo, on the sporting grounds of former Nasukarasuyama City Nanago Junior High School the company installed a free-field solar park. The school was closed in March 2012 after 65 years. Nevertheless, it still plays an important role as a public evacuation place.
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 the people have become more aware of disaster-prevention measures. The newly installed solar park also feeds mobile storage batteries to supply electricity within the shelter in times of emergency.
"We appreciate juwi Shizen's work for dutifully meeting the time of completion," says the President of the company that contracted juwi Shizen energy for building the solar park.
The climate-friendly photovoltaic (PV) plant was set up in only three months' time. Construction started in October 2013. A few days ago it was already connected to the grid. The plant's size is about 8,700 square meters with an installed capacity of almost one megawatt (MW).
"We would also like to contribute to the local area through this plant as we decided to introduce mobile storage batteries," he continues.
The idea of setting up a solar farm on the schools former sports field is welcomed by the city of Nasukarasuyama: "The City suffered an electric outage when the Great East Japan earthquake occurred in 2011. We are delighted to have the solar park coupled with mobile storage batteries on the site of a public facility," Norio Oya Mayor of Nasukarasuyama states.
The alumni reunion of municipal Nanago Junior High School also welcomes the concept: "We are happy and appreciate those involved because the name of the school remains and will continue to do so in the future. We will keep following our areas PV plant," a chairman of the schools alumni association says.
After having constructed several PV power plants in Japan now, Amiram Roth-Deblon, juwis Regional Director Asia/Pacific and Representative Director of juwi Shizen Energy, looks ahead with optimism: "juwi Shizen Energy has a well-filled project pipeline and will make a huge contribution to Japans transition towards a sustainable economy."
