Leybold Optics GmbH from Alzenau/Germany is one of the world's most renowned manufacturers of vacuum systems in various application areas. As part of the forward strategy jointly launched by Kurt Håkansson, CEO, and Jürgen Schneider, CFO, of the company Leybold Optics GmbH, the current product portfolio was split into two independent business units: Optics and Glass & Solar.
Antonio Requena, with more than 20 years of international experience for Leybold Optics, is now the responsible managing director of the Optics Division for marketing the deposition systems for precision optics, ophthalmic lens coating, the automotive and the electronics industry.
Patrick Binkowska will be managing the Glass & Solar division. He has extensive experience in the photovoltaic field and previously held the position of Head of Unit Photovoltaic at Singulus Technologies AG. He will be assisted by Patrick Candala, Director Sales and Marketing Division Glass & Solar and Holger Richert, Director Sales and Marketing Division Glass & Solar/Glass Coating.
The portfolio of the Glass & Solar division contains vacuum systems for the photovoltaic industry for thin film systems (a-Si/myc-Si, CIGS, CIGS-Flex, CdTe) and machines for architectural glass coating, displays and other large-area applications.
Furthermore, Leybold Optics is simplifying the technology transfer in the thin film field "Research & Development to Production". Modular lab systems, which are technologically identical to and also have the same process sequences as the large production systems, only differ in terms of the format of the substrate materials. Results from the "small" laboratory systems can be simply transferred to new or existing production lines.
In the future Leybold Optics will be concentrating on the two organisations within the company: Optics and Glass & Solar. Although systems and markets of the units rarely overlap, synergies will still be used for the development of future products. Leybold Optics goal is to remain one of the leading companies with pathbreaking products in the fields of sputtering, PEVCD, plasma assisted evaporation, automation and software.
A major priority of Leybold Optics will be the worldwide service. By keeping in close contact with the market and the customer field, Leybold Optics is well positioned to recognise requirements, design made-to-measure solutions for customers and to produce these in a cost-efficient manner.
"Establishing the Glass & Solar division reflects the higher priority we are giving to photovoltaic within our company. By means of the continuous innovative further development of our technologies in the thin film and architecture glass fields, Leybold Optics is making an important contribution to improving our living conditions and protecting natural resources; also, the high quality products are contributing to sustainability within our society," comments Kurt Håkansson on the new forward strategy.
The foundation of its success was laid over 160 years ago by the founders and inventors Ernst Leybold and Wilhelm Carl Heraeus. The main sites of this now global company are located in Alzenau and Dresden. Today Leybold Optics has more than 500 employees across the world. The existing network of production facilities and sales offices is being expanded in key markets.
