Maximize the value of PV modules

Up to now it has been not very easy to check spectral influences, e.g. of reddish morning sun, under realistic conditions. A German based company, STRAMA-MPS, is offering a fascinating sun simulator, doing IV testing of solar modules under a flat illumination panel full of LED’s. But there is not only white light in their ProMoSim evo³ technology, no, according to IEC 60904-9, they approximate the sun irradiation within a bandwidth of ±10% by a composition of multi color LED’s positioned in a patented way, reaching flasher level A+A+A+. The irradiation level of each color can be varied individually. Energy harvesting forecasts, even at cloudy sky, can be simulated and failures of bypass diodes checked. An extendable flash duration from 10ms up to continuous light can be combined with measuring forwards and backwards. Because of their modular design, they can test solar cells in 3600 parts per hour lines with one flasher as well as solar modules of various sizes with a minimum machine footprint or roll-to-roll printed thin film photovoltaics with their application adapted extremely long shaped geometry. To get in touch with this technology and to fix an appointment to do tests with your own cells or modules, join the Strama-MPS experts at SNEC fair in Shanghai at booth E3-578.
