An intelligent control algorithm from meteocontrol provides photovoltaic systems with an innovative comsumption mangement feature: System operators can now consume up to 100% of the solar energy generated on-site thanks to new control technology from the WEB'log data logger series.
meteocontrol has developed a compatible on-site energy consumption station to ensure that start-up is easy.
The Power Control Station Compact is an all-in-one solution having all the components required for implementing intelligent energy management. The first system with this technology was realized in Bologna, Italy: meteocontrol installed a 625 kWp roof-mounted system in response to specific consumption requirements. The challenge was to ensure that solar energy was used solely for cooling the operator's warehouses and not supplied to the power grid.
Precise control with constant consumption monitoring The algorithm means that the proportion of self-generated energy used on-site can be regulated according to the grid connection parameters, thus providing a high degree of flexibility. The level of feed-in power can also be controlled in accordance with legal requirements. Actual consumption and generated power are continually measured to ensure precise control. The data loggers regulate the energy generated by the inverters so that the 10-minute average complies with the limit value of the agreed connection output.
Even extreme fluctuations in consumption will not result in any energy being fed back into the grid for example, when the warehouses are being cooled, sudden power shifts can exceed 100 kW.
The algorithm quickly and accurately makes readjustments as needed. At around noon, the power drawn from the grid is reduced drastically and that results in huge savings. The Power Control Station Compact can be individually configured to meet specific requirements, making it an all-in-one solution for systems of all sizes. Flexible control over the proportion of self-generated energy consumed on-site, with a grid feed-in ranging from 0% to 100%, means that innovative application scenarios for photovoltaics can be expected in the near future.
