Nano? But of course! Why J.v.G. Thoma GmbH is deploying a top-class research team to calculate a simple 20 + 4

No farmer would be satisfied with just 20% of his harvest. Hans Thoma, General Manager of the solar specialist company J.v.G. Thoma GmbH, too, feels the same way, and thus assigns a perfect task to the in-house research team. Now, the experts assisting their manager Dr. Claudia Gemmel are about to see a breakthrough. "By means of a special nano-coating we succeeded in significantly increasing the so-called ’light harvesting’, and consequently the efficiency factor," says Claudia Gemmel.

In cooperation with a German start-up enterprise J.v.G. Thoma GmbH has conducted the initial simulations, which indicate that the cell performance can be increased by employing the nano-technology effectively by 20% – in relative terms. What does that mean concretely? A cell with 20% efficiency factor would have an efficiency factor of 24% as a result. This enhancement of efficiency has been since also experimentally confirmed.

"These four percent are just the beginning for us," Hans Thoma points out. And it is not yet a reason for him to lay back with the laurels he would probably receive. After all 100 minus 76 gives merely 24.
