Philippines: Solenergy Systems completes 80 kW rooftop solar power system at a Metro Manila school

Solenergy Systems Inc. recently completed a rooftop solar power system at International School Manila (ISM), located in the city of Taguig, Metro Manila.

ISM decided to pursue a solar rooftop system to both address the rising power costs in the Philippines and also show the commitment the school is making to green and sustainable initiatives.

The rooftop system is 80 kWp in size and is estimated to offset 110,000 kWh per year. The system, comprised of Canadian Solar panels and SMA Tripower inverters, was installed within a very tight construction schedule during the school's summer break. Solenergy also had to design a customized frame attachment detail to work with the school's concrete deck roof and schedule the installation around the water proofing treatment the school was also undertaking at the time. Although a 80kWp solar power system was big enough to offer the school substantial annual power savings and an attractive return on investment, a bigger system was limited by the base power load at the site.

With the advent of net-metering discussions in the Philippines though, should such policy ever come to fruition, the school would then have the opportunity to add more capacity, thus increasing their annual savings.

Solenergy Systems is also working with the school to integrate the rooftop solar power system in to the curriculum and make the technology accessible to the students to learn about solar power and the opportunities that exist for the country to address the rapidly rising power costs.

Solenergy Systems is a Filipino company with substantial industrial and commercial power sector experience. In addition to traditional solar EPC services, they also design and develop custom power system monitoring solutions for solar PV based power plants.
