Power Stations by E3/DC: Electricity Storage with a maximum Level of Autarky as Driver of the Energy Transition in Germany

Share

In 2014 the energy transition reaches its next level in Germany: Over the past fifteen years 1 million house owners have invested in photovoltaic systems, producing energy into the grid according the feed-in tariff (EEG). Now grid parity is reached and the financial benefits of self-consumption have become the focus of attention. Up to 100 percent self-consumption is achievable by using an intelligent electric system – such as the power station S10 of the German technology leader E3/DC (http://www.e3dc.com/). The modular design of the power station S10 is the world’s first system providing an integrated DC energy storage system with three phases, voltage for off-grid operation and current for on-grid operation, both achieving maximum system efficiency based on batteries and new inverter architecture. E3/DC enables the connection of electricity, heat and mobility including DC and AC coupled sources. E3/DC’s virtual power plant functionality is included by standard onboard internet software. The customers’ benefits from balancing energy in Germany within E3/DC Store2Market program (www.store2market.com) and communities can share energy between houses and electrically balanced areas. The expected lifetime of the power station is approximately 20 years, based on lithium-ion technology which has been successfully tested in the automotive industry by Panasonic/Sanyo for decades, e. g. in Tesla’s cars and Asian telecom backup power mass markets, packaging 40 Mio cells per month as factory output. The E3/DC power station S10 is unique in the market due to its size and design (1 x 1 x 0.4 m). Even a combination with diesel generators, linked to autonomous systems, or micro-cogeneration plants is possible in same dimension up to 12kW AC power and 13,8kWh net storage capacity. S10 is available as a 3ph AC-, DC- or hybrid system. The installed base of 850 systems in Germany is connected to the internet, enabling updates and maintenance via remote service. About E3/DC E3/DC is a developer and supplier for intelligent and innovative energy storage systems. The core product is the power station S10, which can be used as a home application or for small businesses enabling very high levels of autarky and self-consumption. The modular design contains the world first integrated DC energy storage system with three phases in terms of off-grid voltage and on-grid current. It is also possible to connect the device to AC-sources. E3/DC enables the connection of electricity, heat and mobility. The production and development of power stations, inverters and other components were manufactured in Germany. Company sites are in Osnabrück, Göttingen, Wetter and Seefeld.
