On November 10, during the Xiamen–Serbia Industrial Cooperation Conference held in Jimei District, Xiamen, POWEROAD’s VP of Sales & Marketing, Albert Su, was invited to introduce our first energy storage project in Serbia to the Serbian delegation and engaged in in-depth discussions on future cooperation opportunities.
The conference was also joined by official representatives from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Republic of Serbia, as well as delegates from Serbia’s energy and trade sectors. Their participation further strengthened dialogue between Chinese and Serbian enterprises and opened new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in renewable energy and industrial development.

Serbia, China’s first free-trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe, offers new opportunities for Chinese enterprises to access the European market.
Serbia’s electricity supply is still dominated by coal, and its grid has limited peak-shaving capability. With the rapid growth of solar and wind power, maintaining power system balance has become increasingly challenging.
To tackle these issues, local policies now require large renewable projects to include energy storage, while allowing commercial and industrial users to participate in the spot electricity market. As peak-valley electricity price differences widen and the ancillary services market matures, the economic value of energy storage for peak-shaving and backup power is becoming more evident.
Driven by favorable policies, Serbia’s energy storage sector is shifting from demonstration to commercialization. In the short term, C&I energy storage systems—especially self-consumption with peak-shaving and distributed storage projects—are emerging as the most feasible and rapidly growing applications.
- POWEROAD First ESS Project in Serbia Set for Operation in early 2026
POWEROAD’s first energy storage project in Serbia is located in an industrial zone in Smederevo Fortress. It is a solar-plus-storage project with an installed capacity of 0.5 MW / 1 MWh, adopting an AC-coupled configuration that supports two- and four-hour discharge modes.
The project follows a turnkey delivery model, covering design, procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning, and after-sales service. It is expected to be officially commissioned in February 2026.
