The joint photovoltaics product range on offer from the two companies now covers two new product lines: COOL SIDE, for patented aluminium junction boxes, and SMART SIDE, for plastic junction boxes and components, providing innovative solutions for the further development of crystalline modules and for new developments such as organic photovoltaics.

The first jointly developed innovations in the SMART SIDE product line are the FPE PL 008 plastic junction box and the EPIC SOLAR 4, a solar connector that can be assembled manually. The two partners will launch both products at Intersolar 2012 in Munich (13–15 June). The FPE PL 008 is a junction box made of top-quality plastic, for ambient resistant cabling of photovoltaic systems. The PTFE membrane ensures the requisite pressure equalization while preventing the ingress of moisture and guaranteeing protection in accordance with protection rating IP 67. Energy efficiency is boosted by the reinforced retention of the ribbons, while moulded cable glands eliminate potential sealing issues.

Thanks to their identical inner design, the FPE AL 008 (COOL SIDE) aluminium junction box and the new FPE PL 008 (SMART SIDE) can be interchanged within the production.

The pre-assembled EPIC SOLAR 4 THIN is compatible to the new EPIC Solar 4 solar connector, has double locking hooks and is available for 2.5 and 4-6 mm cables. By crimping the connector to the cable, system installers can join the cables and the Lapp/FPE junction boxes.

In addition, the two partners are working intensively to introduce new and innovative concepts for junction boxes. Their first joint development was the groundbreaking.

EPIC SOLAR RAZOR junction box with modular construction and unique electronics accessibility. It was introduced in summer 2011, to great acclaim.

The Lapp Group is one of the world’s leading suppliers of integrated solutions and branded products for cabling and connector technology. FPE Fischer was founded in 1977. The company, based in Leutkirch, Germany, manufactures innovative connection technology for photovoltaic modules. The two partners have combined their strengths and knowledge, while leveraging on Lapp Group’s global sales and logistics network.

Within the partnership, the Lapp Group is offering its expertise in cabling and connector technology for c-Si and thin-film modules, and its experience with pre-assembled cables and connectors and screwed cable glands for photovoltaic junction boxes. FPE Fischer meanwhile, is contributing with its know-how in regards to innovative aluminium junction boxes, along with the electronics and control systems for these junction boxes.
