Satcon 1.25 MW medium voltage inverter system receives North American certification

Share

The system is now generally available in North America and certified to UL1741 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 by CSA International.

Satcon Equinox Prism Platform is a factory integrated inverter building block that incorporates two parallel 625kW inverters and a medium voltage (MV) transformer combined with switchgear on a single platform. Delivered as a complete system, Prism Platform enables rapid and reliable site connection, greatly reducing installed cost and site labor. CSA International is Satcon's certification provider, with three products certified to date in 2011, and another six in process.

"CSA is proud to be selected as Satcon's primary certification organization and is a truly valued client," says Joseph Hosey, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, CSA international. "Satcon's 1.25 MW Equinox Prism Platform has been tested and certified to US and Canadian requirements and is eligible to bear the CSA c/us Certification Mark as a the result of many hours of testing, technical reviews and engineering evaluations so as to meet the demanding needs of Satcon and its customers."

Equinox Prism Platform has a CEC weighted efficiency of 98 percent, excluding the medium voltage transformer. This will result in a CEC listing for the full platform system of 97 percent, due to the ~1 percent losses of the standard NEMA TP1. The efficiency gains, compared to other similar solutions, will enable utility scale plants to produce millions more kilowatt hours over the life of the system, and add millions of dollars to the bottom line of the plant owner operators. Prism Platform's advanced utility ready features enable simplified grid interconnection and can be easily integrated into SCADA systems through standardized communication interfaces.

"For over 10 years Satcon has continuously delivered the standard-setting solutions for large scale solar power production in terms of performance, reliability and safety," said Dr. Leo Casey, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Satcon. "The value we are driving is derived not only from best-in-class inverter performance, but also in the ability to more effectively and efficiently develop systems that save time and money over their entire lifespan, improving overall system yield while at the same time reducing installation costs and ongoing operation expense."
