Solar Cells Hellas (SCH), one of the largest manufacturers of PV products and EPC contractor in Greece, has successfully completed the connection of a photovoltaic installation in the Prefecture of Ilia, Greece.
The 5,336 MW project is spread across 100,000 square meters in the northwest part of Peloponnesus, and began generating power on December 23, 2011. The PV park comprises of 21,075 multi-crystalline PV modules by the companies Soltech SA and Admotech SA. The equipment is derived from leading companies in the PV technology sector, providing performance throughout the lifetime of the PV park.
All of the products are certified according to international standards. The PV park construction was based on specific and stringent requirements in accordance with the European standard EN 62446:2009 by the Applied Mechanics Laboratory, University of Patras, (AML). Solar Cells Hellas Group has developed the project throughout the licensing, financing and construction phases.
The PV project was implemented on a turnkey basis by the EPC contractor Biosar SA. The operation of the PV park will have substantial environmental benefits contributing significantly to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
In particular, it is projected to produce approximately 6.94 GWh annually and will reduce CO2 emissions by at least 7,737 tons per year, for a period of 20 years. To indicate the scale of the reduction, it would take 533,600 trees in order to absorb the same amount of CO2 on an annual basis.
Dimitrios Panagakos, president and CEO of Solar Cells Hellas stated, "We are very excited with the completion of the fifth in a row PV Park in the prefecture of Ilia. The proven track record in the development of solar PV projects demonstrates our commitment to be a model company in the modern business environment, overcoming any difficulty especially during the current financial recession".
Solar Cells Hellas within the last month of December 2011 has completed and connected to the grid, projects of 18,47MW. SPVs Companies owned by Panagakos are eligible by the Invest in Greece Agency for a private investment in PV for 132 MW in Greece.
Panagakos also manages a PV portfolio of over 300 MW. The main goal of Solar Cells Hellas is the development of RES projects in Greece and the provision of high quality PV modules.
