Solkompaniet and Polhem Infra have signed a framework agreement with the aim of planning, developing and building large-scale solar power parks in Sweden. The agreement enables the development and construction of solar power parks with an estimated total capacity of up to 600MW.
The agreement includes from the start two projects under development by Solkompaniet with an estimated capacity of 100MW. In addition to Solkompaniet's existing project portfolio, Polhem Infra will actively work in its contact networks to develop solar power projects together with municipalities.
Sweden has good conditions for the development of solar power parks through a combination of a well-developed electricity grid in southern and central Sweden and very good access to land. The largest solar power parks in Sweden today are 20 MW, but they will quickly become larger. The industry organization Svensk Solenergi (Swedish Solar Energy) forecast that already in 2030, Sweden will have a production of 18 TWh from solar power parks alone.
Polhem Infra is an investment company owned by three AP funds (footnote AP1, AP3 and AP4) with the mission to invest in long-term infrastructure assets that contributes to societal transformation.
”Renewable energy production in the form of solar power is an important part of the transition to be able to meet the rapidly increasing electricity demand in society. Investing in solar power parks is in line with our mission and is made possible through the framework agreement with Solkompaniet.” says Karin Karlström, CEO of Polhem Infra.
”That Polhem Infra chooses to invest in solar power parks and thus quickly add new electricity production, where it is most needed, is important for Sweden. It will also be significant for the landowners who will lease out their land that Polhem will be the long-term owner of the parks,” says Axel Alm, CEO of Solkompaniet.
