Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, Minister of Energy, has confirmed her participation at Green Power Conferences’ 2nd Annual Solar South Africa conference, being held this June. Ms Dipuo Peters’ involvement will offer government and regulatory insight on the future energy plans and reaffirm the government’s support for the development of renewable energy sources in South Africa.

“We’re certain solar power generation has the potential to help us meet our ambitious renewable energy targets, not to mention drive economic growth, create jobs, promote sustainable development and contribute to a secure supply of energy,” said Ms Dipuo Peters.

Taking place in June 2012, the conference is perfectly timed to analyse the progress of successful first round bidders following financial close. Plus, attendees will get to discuss what problems remain with the process, and examine how the second round of bidders are getting on.

Ms Dipuo Peters will be joined by senior representatives from Eksom and NERSA along with a number of successful project developers – who’ll be on hand with tips and advice to guide prospective bidders through the process. Agenda highlights include topics critical to the development of the South African solar industry including the ins and outs of the IPP process, environmental assessment and management and the deployment of new and alternative technologies.

Detailed sessions on finance and investment, as well as economic development will also be key features.
