Shanghai-based solar company Surpass Sun Electric (SSE) has signed a CNY500 million ($81.5 million) deal to develop a 49.5 MWp plant at Tianmen, reportedly the biggest solar plant in China's in Jianghan Plain.
Last month SSE chairman and president Chen Jianguo signed the investment agreement with the head of Tianmen municipal government Liu Yixin.
The project, in Hubei province, will be located in three villages in the Tianmen city area, making use of barren hills and slopes.
The Tianmen municipal government said solar power generation had become a strategic emerging industry worldwide due to its cleanliness, safety, convenience, efficiency and other features.
The 49.5 MW plant will play a positive role in diversifying the energy mix and accelerating the industrial upgrading of Tianmen city.
