SunRun today announced it has expanded to New York to help homeowners install rooftop solar for a fraction of what it would normally cost. SunRun families pay a low, fixed rate for solar power without the worries of panel ownership, maintenance, or volatile energy prices. Over time customers save tens of thousands of dollars in energy costs.
"We give homeowners the ability to fix their electricity costs for 20 years while doing something that's good for the planet," said SunRun President and Co-founder Lynn Jurich. "And by taking away the high upfront costs and the hassle of ownership, we've made solar something that's affordable today for more American families."
SunRun owns, maintains and insures solar panels so homeowners don't have to pay $30,000 or more for them. To ensure high-quality installations and facilitate local job creation, SunRun partners with the top installers in each of its markets. Current New York installation partners are Mercury Solar Systems and OnForce Solar. SunRun is available immediately to New York residents serviced by ConEdison Westchester, ConEdison New York City, and Orange & Rockland Utilities. SunRun plans to expand quickly to other regions.
One in eight homeowners who went solar in 2010 chose SunRun, and they praise SunRun's affordability and commitment to customer service. "We looked into solar for many years, but $25,000 was quite a speedbump to get over," said SunRun customer Ken Bookstein. "With SunRun, it became a no-brainer because the upfront costs are low and they maintain the system for free."
According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the installed cost of solar has come down by 30 percent over the past year. SEIA's latest report also indicates business models like SunRun's are spreading home solar to a wider market. SunRun is a national home solar leader with over 15,000 customers in ten states.
