Suntech strengthens community outreach in Europe through social media

Suntech Europe’s new Facebook page will engage Facebook users on company news and initiatives, as well as solar industry news. In addition, the Facebook page will explain solar energy facts to educate consumers, as well as dispel myths about solar energy. The new Suntech Europe Facebook page will supplement Suntech Europe’s Twitter feed with nearly 1,500 followers.

Every Wednesday, Suntech will provide an interesting ‘Did you know…’ trivia question to inform Facebook users on solar and renewable energy, as well as sustainability.

For example, did you know that…

  • Solar panels on 0.7 percent of land in Europe can generate enough electricity to fulfill the continent’s electricity needs? (Source: EPIA)
  • A 5kW solar home system (20 modules on 35 m2 of your roof space) can compensate for the energy consumption of a 3-4 persons household? (Source: www.aew.ch)
  • Suntech has installed more than five GW of solar panels, which is 12 percent of total PV systems installed in the world? (Source: ‘PV Status Report 2011’ by European Commission states that the world had 39 GW of solar photovoltaic electricity generation capacity at the end of 2010)

In addition, Facebook users can learn more about the history of Suntech’s solar innovations, involvement in regional industry and sustainability events, and work to make solar technology affordable for everyone.

“With the new Suntech Europe Facebook page, we intend to provide a discussion platform for everyone interested in solar energy, whether they are homeowners or solar industry professionals,” said Pawel Nowotny, Director Marketing Suntech Europe. “Social media channels are an ideal way for all interested parties to get insight into company information, technologies and market developments, to share information with their colleagues and friends as well as to interact directly with the information providers and with each other. We are looking forward to welcoming a lot of Facebook fans and to a lively interaction on our Facebook page.”
