China-based Chint Group subsidiary, Astronergy has completed a 50 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic plant in Bulgaria.
According to a statement released, the polycrystalline plant started commercial operation today, June 12, after three months of construction. Expected to produce 1.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity over the next 25 years, the plant will feed the generated energy into the local grid under a feed-in tariff contract.
"Bulgaria has good solar irradiance condition which is quite suitable for developing PV projects to reduce reliance on conventional fossil fuels and nuclear energy, which currently compose over 90 percent of the country's total energy mix," said the company.
