Canadian Solar to supply 40 MW to Real Goods Solar

Chinese/Canadian photovoltaic manufacturer Canadian Solar has announced today that it will supply 40 megawatts (MW) of modules to Real Goods Solar.

Canadian Solar will supply more of the U.S. residential and commercial market in a deal with Real Goods Solar.

Real Goods Solar is a commercial and residential solar installer in the U.S., operating out of offices in the West and Northeast of the country. In announcing the supply agreement, Real Goods Solar CEO Bill Yearsley said that the company has been impressed with Canadian Solar’s modules. "Combine that with Canadian Solar's expansive warranty, and we believe our customers will benefit from a compelling and reliable full service solar solution," said Yearsley.

Alan King, general manager of Canadian Solar U.S., commented that Real Goods Solar’s financing innovations makes it a good partner for the module producer. "We commend Real Goods for its market innovations, which are helping drive demand by making solar affordable through attractive financing options and ease of ownership across the United States."

Real Goods Solar offers a solar leasing program called a PowerSavings plan, where home owners pay for the electricity produced by the installation on their roof under a PPA. In some states the plan works with homeowners having to put nothing down upfront.

Today's announcement is the second in North America for Canadian Solar in recent days. Late last week the company announced that it is developing its downstream portfolio in Ontario , through the acquisition of SkyPower’s portfolio worth around 200 MW.
