Work on almost 40 MW German PV park begins
10. August 2011 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartWork on one of Germany’s biggest photovoltaic parks is underway.
Located in Fürstenwalde/Spree on the site of a former military airport, the 39.61 megawatt (MW) project is being undertaken by solarhybrid AG. A total of €76 million has been invested in it.
Suntech will be supplying the 173,712 photovoltaic modules necessary for the installation, while SMA will deliver 46 inverters and Gestelltechnik the mounting systems.
In a statement, the company said the project should be ready to go online by the end of October. In order to reach this goal, it said that up to 350 local workers will be employed.
When complete, it is expected that the installation will generate around 36.5 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, which should be enough to supply 10,500 households.
Both Fürstenwalde’s Mayor Hans-Ulrich Hengst, and Steinhöfel’s Mayor, Wolfgang Funke are said to support the project.
Just a few days ago, solarhybrid announced the construction of another German project, this time worth 30 MW and located in Cottbus-Drewitz.
