The Middle Eastern country has so far mainly supported large-scale projects. The new rules, which will apply to projects not exceeding 1 MW, will come into force in mid-2018.
The new rules will apply to large-scale projects as well as to residential and commercial PV.
The regulated tariff, which was previously granted only to small and medium hydro- power plants, was extended to PV up to 2 MW and wind projects not exceeding 3 MW in size.
The exemption will relate to purchasing, manufacturing and importing of components to build renewable energy power projects.
Solar, however, was excluded from a second energy auction planned for December, which will select wind, biomass, hydro, coal and natural gas-fired combined cycle plants. The Brazilian association ABSOLAR has urged the government to include PV in this auction too.
Approximately 4,800 MW of solar capacity has been commissioned in India in the first six months of the year, surpassing last year’s 4,038 MW total, finds new data from Mercom Capital Group. GST uncertainty could slow growth in 2018, however.
The country’s cumulative installed PV capacity has now surpassed 700 MW, while total renewable energy generation has reached 1.46 GW.
The EV, battery and solar company continues to raise record amounts of cash as it ramps Model 3 production. At the same time, Tesla is emphasizing profitability from its solar business, which has undergone a significant transformation since the company bought SolarCity.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has initiated the second phase of its CPSU program to provide installation capacity totaling 7.5 GW of solar projects made using domestically manufactured solar cells and modules.
According to provisional numbers provided by the government, large-scale solar plants have totaled 145 MW at the end of June, while PV distributed generation has reached 92 MW.
