Brazil will continue its strong solar PV growth. The Brazilian Energy Research Office (EPE) forecasts in its 10-Year Energy Plan that solar PV would reach 20,4 GW of cumulative installed capacity by 2029. The Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (ABSOLAR) even projects 30 GW by 2030. Only in the first six months of 2020, solar PV was responsible for generating more than 41 thousand jobs, even with the fall in economic activity resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. In these six months, new private investments attracted R$ 6.5 billion. Brazil’s Northeast stands out in the renewable energy sector. According to the goals of the Fortaleza 2040 Plan, the city is planning to occupy 10% of its roofs with solar panels to become energy self-sufficient by 2040.
