Booming demand in distributed PV (DPV) rooftop systems, greater energy yield, module-level monitoring, enhanced safety and rapid shutdown requirements are all expected to act as tailwinds for increased adoption of microinverters and power optimizers – collectively termed module-level power electronics (MLPE). IHS Markit forecasts that globally, over 70GW will be shipped in the next five years. Cormac Gilligan, associate director for clean energy technology at IHS Markit, takes a closer look at expected trends in MLPE.
