Ready for takeoff

Airport PV can provide an instant boost to emission-reduction efforts while work continues on sustainable aviation fuels. Developing solar projects at or near airports, however, is not as straightforward as typical ground-mount installations, as Airsight’s Christoph Struempfel explains.

Issue 01 - 2023 | Rise and shine in 2023

Australia’s Melbourne Airport officially opened a 12 MW solar farm in February 2022. The installation consists of about 30,000 panels spread under the approach to the north-south runway. Melbourne Airport says the solar farm is expected to generate 17 GWh of clean energy per annum, or the equivalent of 15% of its annual electricity consumption.
