Solar Park Noordoostpolder forms part of a 16-kilometre gigawatt-scale renewable energy corridor, incorporating wind farms, BESS, and the largest contiguous solar cluster in the Netherlands.
A next-generation energy landscape What sets this project apart is the close collaboration with landowners, public authorities, and other project developers. By integrating existing wind farms with solar fields woven between them, the result is a sustainable energy corridor that optimally meets regional energy needs. Alderman Van Amersfoort of the Municipality of Noordoostpolder commented: “What makes Solar Park Noordoostpolder remarkable is the way in which Ampyr Solar Europe, together with the municipality and the developers of the neighbouring solar parks, has integrated the project into the surrounding landscape. The challenge was to merge the three developers’ projects into one large, unified solar park. I am proud that, through strong collaboration, we have succeeded. The result is an energy landscape that sets a benchmark on every level. The striking images now circulating are, to me, clear confirmation that we have done this exceptionally well.”
Driving scale: one gigawatt of hybrid capacity The broader cluster will represent a hybrid renewable energy facility with a capacity of one gigawatt (1,000 megawatts), connected to a single TenneT high-voltage substation. This scale provides direct support for the acceleration of the energy transition while helping to ease grid congestion, an increasingly critical challenge across Europe.
Tarun Agrawal, Ampyr Solar Europe’s CEO stated: “We are proud to contribute to Europe’s continuing energy transition with the opening of Solar Park Noordoostpolder. The collaboration with our partners has been outstanding and serves as a model for future projects. Solar Park Noordoostpolder underscores our continuing commitment to developing renewable assets in the Netherlands, where Ampyr Solar Europe now has a pipeline of over 1GWp, part of an aggregate European pipeline of over 7GWp across the Netherlands, Germany and the UK.”
Powering industry, strengthening competitiveness A central element of the project is the supply of renewable electricity to Dutch industry. A significant share of the output and Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) will be contracted to major industrial players including Rockwool and VW Kraftwerk GmbH. This not only supports the decarbonisation of key industries, but also enhances the Netherlands’ position as an attractive, future-oriented investment location.
Kenneth Rotvig Dupont, Energy Category Director at Rockwool, added: “Through our contract with Ampyr Solar Europe, Solar Park Noordoostpolder will guarantee a secure supply of green energy for our Dutch operations over the next 10 years. This delivers both certainty and stability. For us, and for many stakeholders, the opening of this solar park marks an important step in decarbonising Dutch industry.”
