Basking in the sun: The technology of the future
More than 3,000 years ago, the Ancient Egyptians worshipped the Sun God. It’s logical, really, because Egypt is a country where the sun is extremely powerful. Global irradiation levels here are between 2,000 and 2,500 kwh/m2. It makes this country predestined for a solar energy infrastructure – except for the fact that peak temperatures in the land of Gods and scholars can climb as high as 100°C. At these temperatures, the yield of conventional solar models is substantially impaired.
