Improving access to modern energy services in rural areas is a priority for many developing countries (South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Argentina etc .), with more than 1.5 billion people worldwide without access to electricity. Around 80% of these people live in rural areas. According to International Energy Agency – year 2009-, the number of people without electricity by 2030 is likely to remain similar to the present day due to population growth.
These are reasons for growing request of Mini Grid Applications: local generators (diesel in most cases) able to satisfy power needs in rural areas, far from main power grid. By now hybrid mini-grids solutions, using multiple generation technologies, can improve reliability of power supply, save money for fossil fuel consumption and cost intensive logistics.
Combining diesel power generation with a PV plant is the most convenient solution, mainly in countries with favourable weather conditions and many days of sunlight during the year. PV hybrid solutions requests a plant controller working in conjunction with the Inverter, able to manage the need-based photovoltaic feed-in depending on load and generation-profile. The Inverter, of course, need to stop supplying power when the load is not enough.
The Omron Inverter can be easily integrated with hybrid solutions controllers as it can receive a set point for active and reactive power through the serial I/O interface. The technological base for compatibility were developed by Omrons R&D department when they designed technological compliance with European Grid Requirements (VDE AR-N 4105- Technical Minimal Requirement for the connection to German low voltage distribution Network, and CEI 0-21 e CEI 0-16, technical requirement for the Italian Grid).
We support our customers developing hybrid solutions, says Eleonora Denna, Product Marketing Manager. As presented at the India Smart Grid 2016 (New Delhi 15-19 March 2016) our inverter is already compliant with the Fuel Reduction System from DHYBRID Power Systems, the German company who developed the leading Diesel-Photovoltaic-Hybrid technology.
As the leading solution provider for hybrid energy applications, DHYBRIDs mission is to provide the best technical concepts. We guarantee 100% grid stability, guaranteed power supply at all time, performance monitoring and best economical business case for our customers. After successful testing, we are very pleased to include Omron inverters in our world-wide project portfolio, states Tobias Reiner, Technical Director of DHYBRID Power Systems GmbH
